While this boot is very comfortable, I'm not pleased with it. If I'm going to pay $300 for a pair of boots named rainforest, I expect them to be as waterproof as they claim. While I bought these back in November, I only started wearing them two months ago. Today was a very wet day here, and I was walking through knee high grass all day. I thought the bottom of my foot felt wet at the end of the day, but I thought, nah that's not possible. Well, when I took the boot off, the whole bottom of my right foot was wet. Therefore, I will not be buying Danners again, nor will I recommend them to anyone else. I should have stuck with the Matterhorns.

I ordered these boots along with the Bates GX-8 Gore-tex Side zip. Was looking for a new boot for working as an EMT. Overall, I ended up choosing these boots over the Bates. I found the Danner boots to fit much better, look more professional, and have a sturdier toe. Pros: Very professional look being all leather. The leather also seemed of high quality and took a shine well I have a very wide foot (8EEE), and found the 8.5EE to fit great! Very sturdy composite toe Loved the stretchy bungie laces Meets all my needs as an EMT Cons: No closure on the zipper to keep the zipper up as I've seen in other boots These might be a little too warm in the summer months There's a big, white patch/button on the tongue of the shoe that looks bad. Fortunately my pants cover this up

For the money I think these boots fall flat. They look good and feel good, but notice I said good. For this kinda' scratch, they should be great. For the money you can purchase a pair of Matterhorn and get twice the boot and yes they are made in the U.S.A. Would I recommend these boots? Yes, but they are a distant 2nd place or in the words of Ricky Bobby "If you ain't first, you're last".

Here's the thing, for 98% of the people whom will buy these boots they will think they are great. These are really good boots, but once you've had a pair of GREAT boots everything other pair of boots is just meh... They have a tendency to pinch in the tongue region and the inverted footbed is a bit wonky, I feel the look better than they perform.

Great style and the quality is second to none. The boot should have used gortex, Danner's proprietary liner is waaaay too hot. Not a spring/summer boot for sure. Fall/winter it's unbeatable.

There's no better boots than Danner; that's why they have some of the military contracts to support our brothers and sisters at arms with boots. Don't be alarmed at the EE - their EE is a normal width (maybe a tad wider for socks/room). A word about breaking them in - these are BOOTS. That means it takes a good deal of dedication to break them in, but once broken in, they're like gloves. Watch lacing the upper laces too tight, as it will rub the back of the ankle. You'll see folks online that have had these boots for 10+ years. Buy some mink oil and leather cleaner and you will forever have a pair of trusted boots.

I really like these low top boots. I have a pair of Danner's that are almost identical to these only high tops. I love them for about 8 months out of the year. In spring/summer my feet sweat and I bought these to combat that issue - which that have. Sure they're not the most aesthetically appealing boots out there but they are super comfortable for someone on their feet all day, and great for warmer weather.

Excellent! Danner has never failed with fit and durability. Very comfortable, supportive and sturdy boot. Use the for rugged mountain terrain around my farm. Very good traction. They don't slip or slide in loose soil. Keeps feet dry (gortex lined). Good toe protection! Love these boots! Love Danner boots. Period!

I have only had these boots for about a month and they are pretty stiff out of the box but are breaking in nicely. They appear to be built very well and I am assuming they will last a long time. The first thing you will notice is the height...these boots are not 4.5" no matter how you measure them. I looked up the measurement method and read that it is taken inside the boot from the arch to the top. These boots (size 11.5 EE) measure 5-3/8" at that point with the insole installed (6-1/4" without the insole). The description says the 4.5" measurement was taken with size 9 boots. Just be aware that the height of the boot will change in proportion with your size. FYI...the measurement from outside the boot from the floor to the top is 7 3/8". Although these were higher than expected, I am happy with them as I have owned Danners before and am confident they will last.

I disagree with the reviewers that said these are "huge". They are true to size. I ordered a half size down from my normal 8.5 based on reviews and while they fit, I could use a half size up to account for foot expansion when hiking. If you are looking for a super supportive boot that you can wear into the wilderness for a week, these are most definitely NOT the boot you are looking for. However, for easy day hikes, city wear, travel, these are suitable for my needs (ie not rolling an ankle). They have decent tread on the bottom and some moderate arch support. They come with a very minimal insert that can be easily swapped out with a Superfeet orthotic if you need more. Compared to other hiking boots, they are far more stylish.

I bought this shoe because we are moving to Alaska and Danner is a recommended hiking boot. I don't like heavy shoes and this style was described as being more shoe like in fit. I often wear a size 9, which I ordered, but it fit too snug at the toe and on the sides of the toe box. I also felt like I was pronating in it. Unsure if I was really going to like the shoe I tried a 9.5. The difference was dramatic. I have plenty of room and I don't feel like I'm pronating either. I haven't actually worn these yet except around the house. My favorite feature other than how attractive they are is that the sole is flexible. Unlike my Keen hiking shoes, which have their own merits, these boots do feel like a regular shoe. So my foot moves instead of being locked in a coffin all day. I'm looking forward to breaking them in.

TWO QUICKS ANSWERS: YES it has a gusseted tongue, and NO it is not the same color as the Forset Heights II "Falcon Grey". The long answer: Both here, and on the Danner website, they neglected to mention that there is a fully gusseted tongue to accompany the Danner Dry waterproof liner, so it is a truly waterproof boot. Also, the pictures on Zappos are very true to real life appearance. It is a very neutral brown boot, or maybe a very dark warm gray? In either case if you really want a truly gray boot, this might not be the best choice. The brown color, like the Jack line is almost oxblood. In all respects it is very comparable to the Forest Heights 2, it has more cushion and out-of-the-box flexibility than the Jack 2 line (which features a leather sole). Because of the gusseted tongue it is fairly snug for anyone with high instep - at least initially - but the shoe runs very true to other Danner boots.

Got these for my husband last winter & he is very satisfied with their performance. We live in Colorado & hike a good amount of the year. The ankle support is excellent, and the boot itself is very well made, protecting the foot from many elements that can ruin a good hike such as deep puddles, poky shrubbery, biting insects, etc. The boots are beautiful and catch the eye of anyone that passes you on the trail, and that aspect matches their functionality wonderfully.

Great style. Looking for a comfortable work boot that can be worn after hours and on the weekends and the Danners fit the bill perfectly! Bought 1/2 size smaller and a little wide for my foot with. A thin sock but overall a very solid boot!

These boots are aesthetically exactly what I was looking for. However, if you have high arches, there is no arch support. There is a cushioned bottom so they are fairly comfortable besides the arches. There are plastic inserts included, but they did not work for me. I would not buy these if you are looking for something with extreme support, comfort, and overall performance for hiking and backpacking. But if you are just looking for a good boot to wear for everyday and the occasional hike, these are really nice! They are very well made and the sole can be replaced so they will last you a lifetime.

The Danner Vicious boots are the most comfortable boots out of the box I have ever purchased! One day break-in and they were good to go. Very supportive, totally waterproof and love the wide toe box so your toes can spread out and not get too cramped, especially on steep descents. I wear 11.5 in most shoes and ordered a half size up per other's recommendations and they fit perfect. Thank you Danner for a well designed boot and thank you Zappos for the great customer service!

Quickie review: Super comfortable. Soft, cushiony insoles. For boots, I'm impressed by the flexibility. Love the classy yet simple shoe design profile. Destroys all other boots in terms of design taste. Red laces are a nice touch. Makes these boots talk. Traction on bottom of shoes is strong. I plan on traveling the world with these bad boys. Best shoe purchase I've made in a while! I ordered a half size smaller as I read on the Danner site that these run large and a couple of reviews mentioned that they do stretch a bit over time.

Amaaaaaazing boots. They felt comfortable right out of the box, with only minor pinching at my achilles, which disappeared after just a few hours of wear. Big difference from the Mountain Lights, which absolutely killed in the same spot! Even just walking around indoors, they were unwearable. And they were more than twice the price. The grip is super sticky! I can navigate muddy trails and slick surfaces with confidence. And yes -- they're pretty darn cute, too! Classic looking (even with those hi-tech soles) and very deserving of all the compliments they get. While I personally feel they fit true to size (length and width) they do stretch out a bit with use. If you can lose the length, sizing down a half could help maintain their snugness. But I just lace them tight and wear thick socks and I'm fine. My feet are hard to fit -- wide toes, narrow heels, and a bunch of old injuries that have really taken a toll on their symmetry. But whether I'm hiking, casually strolling, or grocery shopping, I never take these boots off. Seriously. I already know I'll buy another pair if/when I wear these guys out. So happy to finally have the Danner Boots of my dreams!

I am very happy with these boots so far. Having read some reviews about the leather near the tongue digging in, the tongue needs to be properly tucked the way it is designed. The other review about the laces not staying tight when trying to tie your boots is absolutely right.. However, that is how any boots with these metal eyelets and hook eyelets were designed. That is what they are supposed to do, it's a speedlace system. Pull hard on the laces and keep pressure until you secure each running end in the last eyelet.. I can tell these will be very comfortable after they are completely broken in (which takes months). I can only question the durability of the sole where it is glued to the upper. Time and lots of abuse will answer that question. All in all, the look of these and the hybrid boot-tennis shoe was what I was after and found that with these. I have had Danners that are still going strong after 20 years. Do I think these will last 20? No. But I'm willing to bet I can get a few years out of them, and that's good enough for me.

So far so good, worn a handful of times so far. comfy right out of the box. In my experience as well as some other reviewers they run large. I'm wearing a 1/2 size smaller than my usual size.
