This backpack is great! My dog is incredibly active and I needed something to help wear him out on walks (and as a bonus now he can carry his own water). The bottom zippered compartments are not very spacious, but they are not meant to be. They are perfect for car keys, a cell phone, poop bags, etc...but nothing larger than that. My dog is on the smaller side and I was worried that the pack might be too big on him, but his chest is 19 inches wide and the small size fits perfectly. The straps loosen (slightly) when he runs with the pack on, so I put in one stitch to anchor each strap and now it is perfect. Bailey gets very excited when he sees me take the pack out, he loves wearing it. This pack is built very well and it is sturdy (compared to other cheaper packs). This is definitely worth the money if you are looking for a pack to hold just water and a few small items. This pack is great for regular walks or short hikes. If you typically go for very long hikes and outings, you may need a larger pack that holds larger water bottles - and Ruffwear has larger packs too, definitely worth the investment!

I have a ridgeback cross kelpie, and I was unsure of the fitting as my dog has a long body, thin waist, and medium chest build. This pack by far has the best adjustment system and molds to his body perfectly. It's very light and the backing on the pack is like the backpacks for people. As I live in central Australia I tend to freeze the hydro packs and enclose them in a thick sock.

This is a fantastic track pack. I bought the size small for my 38lbs Staffie Bull Terrier, for our hiking vacation to the Smokey Mountains and can already tell this is going to be great. She already wears the RuffWear Approach, but it's a bit bulkier and heavy/roomy. This Track Pack is sleeker, and the two camelback water packs are a great idea, since I also have an APBT. I highly recommend this for any active dog breed, it's definitely worth the money.

I ordered this because I go on lots of hikes with my dog and wanted to find an easier way to get to his water (without drinking from my Camelbak hose which he normally ended up licking) and also tire him out a little because he has so much energy. This harness has so many features over any other options like mesh backing to keep them cool, easy fitting (adjust once, and all you need to do is snap two buckles), extra pockets for treats, etc. Its also super durable. My dog went romping around in river water, and the pack allowed his hair to dry after I put it back on him! The orange color was great so I could spot him in almost any setting. Also, the Zappos phone customer service is fantastic and we even talked about our new rescue dogs together!

About Ruffwear
While trying to give her dog Moqui a drink, Liz emptied half of her water bottle into a plastic bag and held it while the Rhodesian Ridgeback took a few slurps. Moqui then walked away panting, and Liz was left holding the bag—she couldn't set it down without losing the water and she didn't want to dump what was left back into her water bottle. "You need to do something about this," Liz said, challenging Patrick to develop a solution.
Patrick Kruse was the right person to ask. As a kid he constructed packs for his dog out of army surplus gas mask bags, using them on backpack trips in Northern California's Trinity Alps. As a young adult, he sailed for several years as crew on charter boats in the Caribbean and Central America where being resourceful was a necessity. Patrick's interest in kayaking lead him to start Salamander Paddle Gear acquainting him with numerous technical fabrics. With this unique mix of knowledge and experience Patrick developed The Quencher™, the original collapsible food and water bowl for dogs—and the solution to Liz and Moqui's drinking problem.
In 1994, after 16 months of research and development and product testing, Ruff Wear made its enthusiastically welcomed debut at an Outdoor Retailer trade show with The Quencher™. Since, it has won praise from thirsty dogs and been in a range of publications. "They were impressed with the simplicity, quality and function of The Quencher™ and wanted to see what other solutions we could come up with," Patrick says.
Ruff Wear now offers a full line of innovative performance dog gear. In addition to collapsible bowls, the company produces a full line of dog-related equipment designed to enhance the interaction between humans and dogs. A brief listing of gear includes dog packs, dog boots, dog harnesses, dog coats, and dog life jackets.
"We want to enhance the experience of all dogs and their two legged companions," Patrick says. Besides those who are active with their pets, trainers, working dogs, Search and Rescue teams, Canine Companions and Guide Dog Users all have become Ruff Wear supporters and each present specific challenges in product development. "My needs pale in comparison to those who depend on their dogs for assistance," he says. "The specific tasks and companionship dogs provide is really incredible. It puts a smile on my face when people appreciate the simple design approach that we build into our gear to address complex tasks."
"We’ve always been oriented toward products that will enhance and assist the interaction between dogs and humans. And that has always been and will continue to be our motivation."
