The story of the San Antonio Shoemakers(tm) (SAS) family begins with its founders, Terry Armstrong and Lew Hayden. The two first met in Pittsfield, Maine, but their passion for making quality footwear led them to San Antonio, Texas. After working for a local shoe company, Terry and Lew struck out on their own.
They had a vision of how genuine leather shoes should be made. With determination, and the support of their families, the two pooled their resources to start their first factory in a corner of an unused aircraft hangar on the South Side of San Antonio. In 1976, San Antonio Shoemakers was born.
They started small, with just 13 shoemakers and no marketing beyond word of mouth. The SAS reputation grew and became a name people could trust for comfortable, quality footwear. In 1985, SAS opened a factory in Del Rio, Texas, keeping their business in Texas while allowing for expansion.
Today SAS, continues its dedication to quality and comfort, while expanding the brand to include dozens of new styles and colors. Now, SAS’s line features everything from walking and athletic shoes to pumps, flats, sandals, and even new boots for women. The men’s line has expanded to include walking and athletic wear to dress shoes, and expanded fresh comfort casual offerings. Every day, SAS finds a way to help you Keep Moving(tm).
I love, love, LOVE these shoes! I have bunions and wide-sprawling front of the foot coupled with narrow heels. The elastic keeps every bit of the foot in place. The butter-soft leather upper feel like a gentle hug all day long. Ordering them in at least one other color.
Firstly, I wear a 6.5 Slim (difficult to find). From the moment I put my foot in this shoe, I felt a "CLOUD" experience....so comfy in length and width. It was a PERFECT FIT!. SINCE my initial pair I now have the Pink-Black-Pecan shoes...woud get every color if not out of stock. That's how happy I am with this shoe....and SAS is San Antonio Texas (USA MADE)..can't get more perfect than this in my opinion.! Secondly, I want to address COUPLE OF ISSUES from other review writers....I also discovered these trying to buy my daughter the same shoe...and getting it to fit comfortably.... ....... These shoes fit snug as most have discovered. in my case, fit my skinny foot great. However, if you don't have a Slim or Narrow foot, and typically wear a Med width, stick with the Med....UNLESS, your feet swell during the day after several hours of wear - fluid or weight gain, etc. Then select the Wide width. My daughter wears a Med in most shoes EXCEPT these loafers.... she wears a Wide and finally resolved this issue after exchanging 2 pair. Next- addressing the length issue, She typically wears a 7.5 shoe but NOT in this shoe...After exchanging, again, two pair, she found her "CLOUD" experience , a size 8 in this loafer. So, now we know,, in this loafer made in the US in San Antonio, Texas, she orders a 8 Wide and fits perfectly. She FINALLY discovered why I AM IN LOVE WITH THESE LOAFERS. DON'T GIVE UP ON THESE LOAFERS! They are well made, great support, leather, hugs your heel, stylish, classy and lots of beautiful colors available. I HOPE THIS WILL BE HELPFUL IN YOUR HUNT FOR A COMFY LOAFER!!
Good looking but narrower and a very small toe-box. Felt too small over-all. Non-starter.
Lovely sandal, but did not fit me as the other SAS shoes I have in WW. This style of sole/insole seems to run narrower (as more like a W on my foot).
I forgot to say the deciding factor for getting these shoes - made in USA!
Great shoe, fit comfortably, ordered a wide and it fit! But the color 25 Five had shiny gold gloss that smacked of cheap sandals. Perhaps another color would be acceptable.
I think I'm going to love this one. Almost didn't order it thinking it would be way too dorky. But it really doesn't look at all bad on the foot! The nice leather holds my feet well, which I need because I pronate. I ordered a 5.5WW (I know..ugh) but it fit pretty perfectly.
I don't think this is "ugly" like a review said. It's just not ready for the red carpet. But the leather is quality, and there's lots of BUCKLE adjustments, which I find so much less annoying than velcro. For me the WW was a little too wide. Will try a W.
Nice looking shoe on. I got a 6WW because some reviews said it ran narrow. It was too wide so I'll try a 6W. Love the leather on SAS, and they build the velcro so that it doesn't chafe your foot (if you have to adjust it, which is what velcro is for, right? Dah.)
I think I may be in love with this one. I almost didn't order it because I thought it would look overwhelmingly ugly. But it doesn't! It holds my foot and it's comfy to boot. My foot is somewhere between a 5.5WW and a 6W. (Ugh).
