I'll always be a diehard Frye fan but I came across these lace-up, combat style shoes accidentally. What appealed to me about these is the unique toe, the "old" look and the fact they came up higher than my ankle. These are a boot that you actually have to try on for yourself to feel the difference between what brand you usually buy, and what brand you'll be keeping an eye on in the future. The leather is incredibly soft, extremely malleable, yet cushioning and sturdy in the right places. Some other reviewers have said that the shoe is a little long or a little too "clownish" but I think everyone's foot/leg composition is different and I would suggest you try these on for yourself. I bought my usual size (8.5 - all my Fryes are 8.5 too) and I originally thought they may be too long but they're actually not. There is definitely wiggle room, which is a bonus, but it is not loose, or big, or clunky. In real life they don't look clownish as they do on the website. If you purchase these I suggest you go with your usual size and make your judgment call that way. I chose the brown color as I wanted more of the paratrooper vintage look, as opposed to the black (which in my opinion gives it more of a motorcycle boot look - I felt black would give this shoe a completely different image and perhaps wouldn't bring out their uniqueness so much). The toe is sturdy and the shoe part is cushioning around your foot. The leather is so soft on the shaft that you should have no worries about leather digging in or being too hard or uncomfortable. The shaft is a pillow for your ankle. I also like that they can be worn several ways, depending on the look that you're going for. I choose to lace mine up almost to the top and have the top slightly loose-ish. I like that the tongue is attached to the inside of the shoe, rather than the tongue being loose from the shoe. This way, I can simply tuck the laces in behind and my foot will still be secure in the shoe. Yes, it may take some time to do up and undo the laces but the style and feel of the boot should override that small inconvenience. I was so pleased with the fit and feel and comfort and look of this shoe that I immediately purchased the Vintage Shoe Co. Jennifers - I'm looking forward to receiving those, and I will be keeping my eye out for other unique boots of this brand.

Very beautiful and pre broken in. Soft comfortable footbed. But runs very small. I wear a 9 1/2 and tried them on with super thin stockings and they were tight! I ordered the 10 and am wondering if they will fit? They are narrow too. But very beautiful. I hope they fit because I love them.

I received these and thought they ran true to length, but a bit wide. They were extremely flimsy and not worth the price. More like slippers than shoes. I felt that the sale price I paid wasn't even worth it. Sent back!

Thoroughly enjoying these boots. My very first pair of Vintage Boot Co. shoes. If anyone would like to buy me another pair, please contact me. Ha.

The leather is soft and buttery but paper thin and the shoes have absolutely no body. Yes, they are comfortable because it is like wearing socks, they are that thin. But they will look beat up within a week. The heel is so thin and flat that it will wear down in no time and there would be no way to replace the nonexistent heel. Then what? All for quite a bit of money! Also, the leather across the front of the shoes is loose when you tie the laces. I definitely have to return them.

My feet hate me, and they love these shoes. I usually have to use some custom orthotics with shoes to keep my feet from killing me. These shoes are so comfortable I can wear them all day and then dance all in night in them. I love them, and I am buying my second pair now (Black, I have Brown already). My feet are usually "wide" and I can't say it enough; these feel amazing on my feet.

Love these shoes. They were a perfect fit, the leather was like butter, and they look great with skirts, shorts, pants, and jumpers. I am going to buy another pair at some point for my daughter. If you need a lot of arch support, you will need to add an insert with these shoes. Otherwise, comfortable.

I wanted to warn others that these actually run 1 size larger in length than I thought. I ordered a 7½ originally, and my friend who is always a size 8 (with normally sized feet) fit perfectly into the 7½. I then ordered a 7 and they were still too big. I hope the 6½ will fit...

Supreme quality! Worth every penny - all I could do was wow at the all leather materials and durability. All I would suggest is to get the bottom leather sole surfaced and protected by a shoe repairman (with rubber?). I had my all leather bottom soled Frye boots for 8 weeks and I needed to get them resurfaced due to constant wear. I range between a 7-7.5 (wide toebox, narrow ankles) and I ordered a 7.5. They were too big lengthwise and did not stay on my feet - so I would suggest ordering smaller. The chocolate color will just get even better with wear and age and there is minimal "toe cleavage" to worry about. I love these and I will be ordering a smaller size when available.

Third time is the charm! Have these boots in brown from Sundance. Right out of the box they were a perfect, comfortable fit and true to size (7M). So when I saw them on Zappos in black I ordered them in a size 7, but I couldn't even get my foot in the boot. I sent them back and I ordered a second pair in size 7.5. One boot fit fine, the other was a struggle to put on, so I sent these back. I love my brown boots from Sundance (also made by Vintage Shoe Co.) I decided to give it one more shot. The last pair I received in size 7.5 fit just fine. Not as well as my brown pair, but well enough to live with. So, if you can find a pair that fits, these boots are awesome, but you may have to give it a couple of tries.

Lovely shoe. Very soft, like a ballet slipper with a slight bit of padding on the sole. They fit beautifully, and the style looks feminine. I didn't want to take them off after arrival, and went to see if there was another color in my size but they've already sold out. My only wish, a pair in red.

I read the reviews, so I ordered two pairs, one in size 7 and one in size 7 1/2. I normally wear a size 7, but I couldn't even get my foot in the size 7 boot. The size 71/2 fit great on my right foot, but I had to struggle to get the left boot on. When I finally got the boot on, it fit ok, but the quality of the construction on the left boot leaves much to be desired. I had ordered these same boots from another company and had to send them back for the same reasons. It seems there is little quality control and standardization in the construction of this product as every pair of boots fits and feels extremely differently. I acknowledge that variations in handmade goods will exist, but this is beyond acceptable. Sadly, I will be returning these boots. Too bad because the style is awesome, the leather beautiful.

I agree with the reviews written previous to mine that these boots are very narrowly sized. The toe box is too small, and would not recommend these. It is a shame because these boots have luxuriously soft leather that smells and feels like a baseball glove. Overall, I find trying to get a correct fit difficult with online purchases. However, I can rarely find any interesting shoes in retail stores so what to do?

These boots are extremely comfortable from the moment you first put them on. I get less comments from people on these than when I am wearing more vintage styled shoes, but the look is very nice and simple. Unfortunately, the rubber heel guard has already fallen off one one boot and there is a crack through the leather across the ball of the other after only four months of after work wear. I hate to be critical of this amazing shoe company, and I know they make quality boots but this is unacceptable for such an expensive pair of shoes.

I usually wear a size 7, but in these, I wear a 7½. I absolutely love these boots. The first day I got them, I wore them walking all day with my family, usually a big mistake with new shoes, but these were super comfortable. The more I wear them, the more the leather sole conforms to my feet, and the more comfortable they get. The boots are beautiful, comfortable, and exactly what I was looking for. They seem like they are built to last, so I look forward to having them for years to come.

These shoes look great and feel extremely comfortable. They don't require any breaking in. Just a warning that these shoes have a very handmade look to them (i.e. - they aren't perfect). Also the color and wear of the leather on the two shoes don't exactly match, but I like that.

These are definitely the best-made boots I own, and I consider myself a connoisseur of sorts. The leather is unbelievably soft, and the craft is sturdy and beautiful. These are actually way better (more elegant look, softer leather, more impressive craft) than I expected. I have worn them nearly every day since getting them - totally worth the price, in my opinion. They were instantly comfortable (the sole felt nicely cushioned right away), and go with everything from jeans to skirts and tights. And I love that they are made in the USA!

Wow. These feel like the softest gloves you've ever adorned. The stitching and lacing are very clean and stylish. I have only these a couple of weeks so their durability is unknown. Based on how incredibly soft and supple they are I wouldn't use these for anything other than light office, retail or casual walking. A beautiful boot but definitely not for "boot" wear.

These are the best boots I have bought in a really long time. Everything is perfect, the leather quality is top notch, much better than Frye which I always find a bit too stiff, heavy and thick, although I own a few pairs. And the quality and construction are far better than that of Steve Madden boots, which I also have. These were comfortable right from the get go, and I walk several miles per day. At first they were slightly snug across the instep but after literally less than 10 minutes of wearing them in the house, they felt like I had owned them for years. I understand why they have to be snug at first, this type of leather really molds to your foot. Great traction on the soles, with the perfect amount of cushioning and support. I did order half a size down as others recommended, I wear a size 6.5 and I got the 6. My foot measures 9 1/8 long, and had I bought the 6.5, the footbed area would have been too long and it would have looked like I was wearing clown shoes! I own 6 pairs of Vintage Shoe Company boots, and they are all worth every single penny as they will last for years.

This is a gorgeous boot, and exceedingly well made. I'm a bit puzzled by the other review claiming Vintage boots to be poorly constructed. I have four pair of Vintage boots (these, the Luisa, the Eliza, and the Juliet), and the quality and comfort are simply outstanding. It's true that the sizing is inconsistent from style to style, but this is largely due to the varying size in shoe lasts, as well as the fact that Vintage boots are all handmade -- every pair -- here in the U.S. (in PA, to be exact). It's easy to get consistency when boots are manufactured in a mechanized factory, but handmade means variation, by definition. For me, that's not a problem. I'm fine with small aesthetic variations, and I'm willing to experiment, since I find Vintage to be extremely well crafted and beyond comfortable. The only other boot brand I've worn that equals Vintage in comfort is Old Gringo.

Beautiful beautiful shoe with a great vintage look. Agree with past reviews- you get what you pay for. Quality of the leather and construction is top notch. I also agree with reviews that mention the shoe runs small/narrow. I normally wear a 8.5 medium width and went up to a size 9 and the fit was great. Going up a whole size would have made the shoe way too long. Shoe is comfortable right out of the box- though as with any quality leather shoe, it will only get better with time as it molds to your feet. Would have given 5 stars all across the board but the width is still ever so slightly tight. Not uncomfortably tight but enough to hold back the 5 star rating on comfort. Given the nice leather though- this will stretch out with time. But again- overall, a wonderful shoe that is worth the money. I would definitely recommend to anyone with narrow to medium feet width.
